About bSUMMIT
"Education has to be directed to meet what is needed today, and more especially, what is needed tomorrow." - Robert Baden-Powell
What is bSUMMIT?
The Personal Development Course is an integral part of a youth member's journey in Scouts.

The Boroondara Summit, or bSUMMIT, empowers Scouts to do more, learn more and become more through a unique program that equips them for leadership opportunities in their Patrol, Unit and wider community.

The Course is distinctly designed to challenge and extend the leadership and character development of Scouts as they acknowledge, embrace and reflect on who they are becoming as young people. Bringing together Scouts from across Boroondara and further afield to other parts of Victoria, bSUMMIT blends fun and personal growth to create a leadership adventure like no other.
The Program, Its Pillars & Personal Development
Activities on the Course are divided into three pillars. Scouts, as a cohort and working in their bSUMMIT Patrols, move progressively from one pillar to the next, undertaking a sequence of carefully structured and focused activities in each.
These pillars allow Scouts to explore leadership in three distinct contexts: leadership among others, leadership of self, and leadership in the unique setting of a Scout Unit.
SPICES
At its heart, Scouts is about personal development across six areas of growth (listed below). On bSUMMIT, youth members further their personal development in each of the below areas, and these educational objectives form the basis of our programming on the Course.
Youth Leading, Adults Supporting
At all levels, Scouts is led by youth and supported
by adults. Youth members are empowered to:
-
take ownership of their journey,
-
become increasingly involved in the leadership of their Patrol, Unit, and community,
-
and ultimately, create a better world.

Leadership in Scouts is realised through actively involving youth in decision-making, engaging Scouts in the Patrol System, and providing opportunities for young people to develop leadership skills and qualities through experience.
The Team
bSUMMIT is only possible because of a large team of amazing Leaders, Rovers, Venturers, and older Scouts. Everyone who joins this tight-knit crew is committed to bringing their best mentoring skills, enhancing the bSUMMIT program, and providing exceptional learning experiences for Scouts.

We highly encourage Adult Leaders who have Scouts from their Unit on the Course to come along and get involved. Scouts will only be able to make maximum use of what they have learnt if their Leaders know and understand.

Youth Mentoring
Youth Mentoring is a fundamental component of bSUMMIT and an embodiment of Youth Leading, Adults Supporting.

Youth Mentors are Scouts who have previously completed the Course and returned to bSUMMIT in order to help deliver an enjoyable and educational experience for all attending by guiding and training a Patrol. Youth Mentoring is fun and a great way for Scouts to continue developing their leadership skills.

Youth Mentors are appointed through an application process, whereby those with the highest calibre of leadership skills and most to contribute to bSUMMIT are selected in line with the needs of the Scouts attending bSUMMIT. The Youth Mentor Team is a tight-knit group with a positive culture and strong team identity to be proud of.
